Job
Summary:
The Health Information Services Specialist coordinates, processes and monitors all types of medical record requests, disseminates incoming patient records and communications in a timely and efficient manner, coordinates legal requests with risk management and legal counsel as needed, and processes requests in accordance with clinic and departmental policies, state and federal policies, as well as HIPAA.
The Health Information Services Specialist stays current with release of information rules and regulations, and provides education on release of information as needed, coordinates medical record reviews, properly assists requestors with access to patient health information (PHI), and utilizes electronic health records to respond to requests.
Essential Functions/Major Duties and
Responsibilities:
A.
Health Information Services Specialist Duties 95% Evaluate incoming medical records and attach to electronic health record for distribution to the appropriate party for processing.
Oversee the validation and certification of requests for patient health information ensuring they meet compliance standards and patient authorization.
Ensure all releases of information are in compliance with the request, authorization, policies, and State and Federal/ HIPAA regulations and guidelines, including 42 CRF Part 2 as they apply to Mental Health and Chemical Dependency records.
Release records as appropriate for RiverStone Health Clinical Division.
Serve as a resource in answering patient, provider and employee questions and concerns relating to requests for health information.
Provide training for other departments or Satellite Clinics as needed.
Obtain and enter information into the State of Montana Vital Statistics database as needed for the completion of Death Certificates for RiverStone Health Clinics.
Generate invoices for patients, attorneys, and other organizations as appropriate for release of records.
Conduct risk review audits for insurance companies and HEDIS audits for Medicare, as requested.
Complete records requests for Worker's Comp and Social Security Disability determinations.
Send letters with provider notes and normal lab results to patients for all Main Clinic providers.
Work closely with RiverStone HIPAA Compliance Officer.

Education and
Experience:
Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent Minimum of one year experience in medical office environment Intermediate computer skills including proficient keyboarding skills and experience in using Microsoft Office products, e-mail and/or electronic health information records systems Any combination of experience and training which provide the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work Preferred

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
